Policy Director Role
Position: Policy Director (Part Time - Executive Level)
Organization: Environmental Markets Association (EMA)
Location: Remote/Hybrid (Travel required at times)
Hours: Approximately10 hours per week
About the Environmental Markets Association (EMA):
EMA’s mission is to promote open, competitive, and tradable market-based solutions that utilize environmental attribute certificates (EACs) to solve environmental challenges and foster investment into sustainable development. The EMA Board has approved the following policy priorities to advance this mission on behalf of the membership.
Position Overview:
EMA is searching for a part-time Executive Policy Director focused on environmental commodities market development. This senior leadership role will be responsible for the coordination and direction of the Association’s policy affairs initiatives. The Policy Director will work closely with EMA’s Board, Executive Director, Membership, and external stakeholders to pro-actively and strategically realize the Association’s policy advocacy goals. A successful candidate will possess:
- In-depth industry knowledge and prior experience within an energy / environmental policy affairs role
- Highly developed interpersonal relationship skills and prior experience within a front-office facing role
- Excellent verbal, writing, communication and public speaking skills
- Analytical aptitude to understand and navigate complex policy issues across sectors and commodities
- A passion and dedication to well-designed, open, competitive, and tradable market-based solutions
- A desire to find common ground, build bridges between sectoral interests, and work productively across aisles
- An interest in building the association membership base and financial resources to transition towards a full-time role with staff down the road
Scope of Services:
- Work with committees to develop educational position papers promoting EMA’s approved policy priorities
- Monitor, track, report, and coordinate submission of EMA policy positions in public comment / consultation processes
- Develop and implement educational and outreach campaigns via media channels, interviews, podcast/video content, cross-conference attendance, and public speaking
- Establish, strengthen, and maintain partnerships with other associations and collaborate on shared initiatives
- Build relationships, liaison with policy personnel at member, non-member companies on policy priorities
- Build relationships, liaison with public & NGO policy makers, educate EMA policy positions and advantages
- Enhance / improve written website content and media, align with approved policy priorities
- Recruit new members and engage with existing members, seek feedback on EMA industry challenges

Compensation:
Monthly retainer + travel expenses based on experience level, time commitment, and established deliverables.
